Adapter Selection Guide

Selecting the correct adapter is essential for accurate dyno loading, repeatable readings, and safe test operation. This guide helps technicians choose the proper adapter for International Dyno Model 2000 and Model 4000 systems using three key checks: engine platform, connection type (splines or drive pin), and exact spline count.

Model 2000 Coverage

Designed for full-load testing on most outboards from 25 HP to 225 HP and most stern drives up to 260 HP.

Available Adapters

  • Z Adapter - 15 Splines
  • PP Adapter - 13 Splines
  • SD Adapter - Drive Pin
  • JE Adapter - Drive Pin
  • 35-50S Adapter - 11 Splines
  • VS Adapter - 17 Splines
  • LC Adapter - 15 Splines
  • TT Adapter - 18 Splines
  • RR Adapter - 14 Splines
  • CF Adapter - 13 Splines
  • VO Adapter - 19 Splines
  • MD Adapter - 10 Splines

Model 4000 Coverage

Built for most standard production outboards at 80 HP and above, and most I/O applications up to 575 HP.

Available Adapters

  • HD Adapter - 19 Splines
  • Z Adapter - 15 Splines
  • PP Adapter - 13 Splines
  • SD Adapter - Drive Pin
  • VS Adapter - 17 Splines
  • LC Adapter - 15 Splines
  • TT Adapter - 18 Splines
  • VO Adapter - 19 Splines

Step-by-Step Adapter Selection

  1. Confirm whether the engine falls inside Model 2000 or Model 4000 horsepower/application range.
  2. Identify the connection format required: splined shaft or drive pin.
  3. If splined, count and verify spline quantity before selecting adapter type.
  4. Cross-check the adapter code against the available list for your selected dyno model.
  5. Dry-fit and verify full engagement/alignment before starting any loaded test run.
  6. Record adapter type used in the service notes for repeatability on future tests.

Quick Compatibility Notes

  • Some adapter codes are shared across both models (for example Z, PP, SD, VS, LC, TT, and VO), but always confirm model capability first.
  • Model 2000 includes additional adapter options such as JE, 35-50S, RR, CF, and MD for broader lower-range compatibility.
  • Model 4000 includes HD adapter support for higher-demand applications.
  • Incorrect adapter choice can reduce measurement consistency and increase coupling wear, so verification before loaded testing is critical.
